Stade de la Meinau: A stunning design made from Airbus wreckage
Discover the story of the renovation of the Stade de la Meinau in France using the wreckage of 30 Airbus aircraft. A unique architectural design that combines sustainability and sport with a larger audience capacity.

In an architectural first that combines the excitement of football and aviation engineering, the “Stade de la Meinau” stadium in France became the talk of the world, during its hosting of a fiery match between Crystal Palace of England and Strasbourg of France in the Europa League.
The stadium stole the spotlight not only because of the home team's 2-1 victory, but also because of its revolutionary design, which relied on recycling parts from 30 decommissioned Airbus A340 passenger planes, setting an unprecedented example of sports sustainability.
Futuristic design with a "spaceship" facade
According to international press reports, including those from the British newspaper the Daily Mail, the stadium's south facade, dubbed "Breath Soleil," has become a stunning visual icon. This facade comprises 196 panels meticulously crafted from disassembled aircraft fuselages. These fuselages were cut to form curved white metal panels that reflect sunlight during the day and glow at night, giving the stadium an exterior appearance that the press has described as resembling a "spaceship.".
This engineering innovation is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also represents a smart environmental solution known in the world of architecture as "upcycling," where huge industrial wastes such as aircraft structures are transformed into high-value building materials, reducing the carbon footprint of traditional construction processes.
A rich history meets modernity
The Stade de la Meinau is one of the oldest stadiums in the Old Continent, having first opened its doors in 1921. For more than a century, this edifice has witnessed important historical milestones in French and European football, including hosting matches of the European Champions Cup in 1961. However, due to the aging of its infrastructure, the stadium was in dire need of a comprehensive renovation befitting the stature of Racing Club de Strasbourg and its large fan base.
In an ambitious move that began in January 2021, the European Union of Cities launched a major stadium redevelopment project with an investment of €160 million. The project is being overseen by the world-renowned architectural firm Populous, the same team that designed Tottenham Hotspur's iconic stadium in London, ensuring the highest standards of quality and innovation.
An exceptional audience experience
The new development aims to increase the stadium's capacity from 26,109 to 32,000 spectators by the project's scheduled completion in August. The new South Stand, with a capacity of 12,000, features two balconies overlooking an adjacent park, as well as open spaces that encourage interaction among fans and offer stunning panoramic views of historic Strasbourg.
This architectural transformation has been widely praised, with the French Ministry of Sport describing it as a "model of green sport," while the club aims to promote sports tourism in the region through it, taking advantage of its location in the heart of Europe and its participation in major continental championships.

Nagelsmann announces the return of Havertz and Musiala to the German national team
Nagelsmann confirms the return of Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz to the German national team squad for the March camp in preparation for the matches against Ghana and Switzerland ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Julian Nagelsmann, the German national team coach, has announced his final decision regarding the inclusion of the prominent attacking duo, Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala, in the "Mannschaft" training camp scheduled for next March. This decision ends the speculation surrounding the players' fitness and their ability to participate in upcoming international matches.
In an interview with the German newspaper Kicker on Sunday evening, Nagelsmann confirmed that the duo would be officially included in the national team squad for the March international break, following a long absence due to injuries and physical limitations that kept them out of international duty. The young coach explained the importance of their return, saying: "It's natural and necessary for them to come back at this time. It's been a very long time since they last played for the national team; I haven't seen Musiala with us for over 10 months, and Kai Havertz's absence has been even longer.".
The 38-year-old coach concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the primary objective of recalling the duo now is to give them the opportunity to regain their rhythm and cohesion within the national team's tactical system before upcoming major competitions. The return of Bayern Munich star Musiala and Arsenal playmaker Havertz represents a significant morale and tactical boost for the German national team, given their individual brilliance and ability to make a difference in the attacking third – qualities the team has lacked during previous periods of absence.
This return takes on added significance in the context of the German national team's preparations for the 2026 World Cup finals. Nagelsmann aims to use the upcoming training camp to solidify the starting lineup and create the necessary harmony between experienced players and promising youngsters. The German team is scheduled to play two high-profile friendlies during the March international break, facing the physically strong Ghanaian side and the tactically organized Swiss team. These matches will be true tests to gauge the team's readiness and the extent to which the coach's ideas are being implemented on the pitch.
The German public is counting heavily on the national team being completed with the return of its injured stars, as this camp represents a pivotal step in the roadmap to the World Cup, and an attempt to restore the prestige of German football on the world stage after the challenges it faced in recent tournaments.

Moussa Dembele's stance on the Al-Ettifaq vs. Al-Shabab match in the Roshan League
Al-Ettifaq's coaching staff is awaiting the results of Moussa Dembélé's medical tests to determine his availability for the match against Al-Shabab in the 25th round of the Roshan League. See the player's statistics and the teams' standings.

All eyes in Saudi football, particularly those in the Eastern Province, are on Al-Ettifaq's training camp, where the team's coaching staff is experiencing a state of anticipation and anxiety. National coach Saad Al-Shehri, who leads Al-Ettifaq, is eagerly awaiting the results of the detailed medical tests that French striker Moussa Dembélé underwent on Sunday evening. These tests are a crucial step in determining the player's readiness and his ability to participate in the highly anticipated and crucial match against Al-Shabab in the Saudi Professional League.
Moussa Dembélé, 29, is a key player in Al-Ettifaq's attacking lineup this season. His importance and direct impact on the team's results are evident in his 13 official appearances for the club this season, during which he scored five crucial goals and provided one assist in 1025 minutes of play. This makes him a valuable asset that the coaching staff hopes to retain in such important matches.
The Al-Ettifaq Stadium is set to host this crucial match, as they welcome Al-Shabab at 10:00 PM next Saturday, in the 25th round of the Roshan League. This game holds added importance for both teams given their positions in the standings and their desire to improve their rankings before the season concludes.
Considering the two teams' positions in the league table before kickoff, Al-Ettifaq enters the match in seventh place with 38 points, hoping to capitalize on home advantage and secure three points to move closer to the top four or at least improve their comfortable mid-table position. Meanwhile, Al-Shabab is experiencing an exceptionally difficult season, currently sitting in thirteenth place with 25 points, a position unbecoming of the club's illustrious history. This makes the match a crucial cup final for Al-Shabab, who are desperately seeking to escape the relegation zone and regain their footing in the league.
Matches between Al-Ettifaq and Al-Shabab always carry a special significance, characterized by intense rivalry and historical excitement in Saudi football, with each side striving to assert its dominance. Under the guidance of Saad Al-Shehri, Al-Ettifaq aims to deliver a disciplined tactical performance. However, the potential absence of Dembele may force the coach to seek alternative attacking solutions to compensate for the French striker's potent attacking force, especially against a resolute Al-Shabab defense determined to secure a positive result.

Aubameyang leads Marseille to a dramatic victory over Lyon in Ligue 1
Aubameyang scored a dramatic brace to rescue Marseille against Lyon, winning 3-2 in Ligue 1 and narrowing the gap in the Champions League race. Find out more about the round and the results for Paris FC.
On a dramatic football night at the Velodrome stadium, veteran Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang established himself as a national hero in southern France, after saving his team Marseille from certain defeat and leading them to an exciting "remontada" victory over their guest Lyon with a score of 3-2, on Sunday evening at the conclusion of the twenty-fourth round of the French Football League.
A crazy scenario at the Olympic summit
The match was more than just an ordinary encounter; it was a direct battle for European qualification. Marseille found themselves in an unenviable position after conceding an early goal to Corentin Tolisso after just three minutes. Although substitute Igor Baixao equalized in the 52nd minute, the visitors regained the lead through Rémy Ambert in the 76th minute.
As the match drew to a close, and Marseille looked set to fall eight points adrift of third place and a Champions League qualification spot, Aubameyang turned the game around. The Gabonese star scored the equalizer in the 81st minute, before sending the Velodrome into raptures with a dramatic winner in the first minute of stoppage time (90+1), securing three precious points for his team.
The impact of winning on the Champions League battle
This victory holds immense strategic importance for Marseille, transcending the mere significance of winning a derby or a classic encounter. Direct qualification for the Champions League guarantees French clubs substantial financial returns and enhances their appeal in the transfer market. Thanks to Aubameyang's brace, Marseille has narrowed the gap with third-placed Lyon to just two points, reshuffling the title race and placing immense pressure on their rivals in the remaining rounds.
Habib B and Kombouaré's fingerprint
This victory is credited to the new coach, Habib Bey, who took over in emergency circumstances on February 18th, succeeding the Italian Roberto De Zerbi. Bey succeeded in instilling a fighting spirit in the team, which was clearly demonstrated by their comeback in the final minutes.
In a related development concerning the coaches' rivalry, Antoine Kombouaré passed his first test with Paris FC, the newly promoted club owned by the wealthy Arnault family. Kombouaré led the team to a valuable 1-0 victory over Nice, courtesy of a goal from Marshall Munetsi, ending a run of six consecutive defeats. The experienced coach demonstrated his tactical acumen by making bold changes, most notably dropping former captain Maxime Lopez, confirming that the "redeemment game" for the Parisian family's ambitious project has truly begun.
Impactful results at the bottom and top of the league standings
The round also saw Lille continue their impressive run, securing their third consecutive victory with a late goal against Nantes (1-0), bringing their points tally to 40 and deepening the relegation woes of Nantes. Brest also achieved a heroic win with ten men against bottom-of-the-table Metz, thanks to a goal from Ludovic Ajorque, keeping them in contention for ninth place. Meanwhile, Lorient and Auxerre played out a thrilling 2-2 draw.
