Snooker Masters Championship: World stars compete tomorrow

The Masters Snooker Championship kicks off in Jeddah: A world-class competition in the spotlight

Jeddah is preparing to host one of the world's most prominent sporting events, the Snooker Masters, one of the four major tournaments in the sport, which kicks off tomorrow (Friday). The tournament will run until August 16, 2025, at the Green Hall in Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City, and will feature a selection of the world's top snooker players.

Global participation and prominent stars

The tournament features 144 players from around the world, including defending champion Judd Trump of England and world champion Shao Xintong of China. With a prize purse exceeding £2 million, this tournament boasts the second-highest prize money event on the 2025 World Snooker Tour.

Sixteen players will have the opportunity to participate via wildcard invitations, including ten Saudi players . Among them are eight-time Saudi champion Omar Al-Ajlani and Abdulraouf Sayigh, who participated in the previous edition of the tournament held in Saudi Arabia. Ziad Al-Qabbani, Ahmed Assiri, Ayman Al-Omari, and other promising Saudi stars will also be participating.

Strong competition and great challenges

England's Judd Trump enters the competition to defend his title after his dramatic 10-9 victory last year over Welshman Mark Williams. That match was one of the greatest finals in the history of major snooker tournaments, with Trump coming back from a 62-point deficit to secure the win.

The tournament will be held on 8 tables during the first five days, providing an ideal environment to follow the high level of performance and diverse tactics that the players will present.

Future projections and outstanding sports supervision

The Saudi Billiards and Snooker Federation , in cooperation with Matchroom and the World Snooker Tour (WST), is working diligently to ensure the success of this major sporting event, under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Sport. This tournament is expected to further enhance the Kingdom's standing as a global sporting destination.

Expectations point to fierce competition between international and local players, which enhances the chances of discovering new talents who may soon emerge on the international scene.

“It’s a great opportunity for snooker fans to enjoy strong competition and witness world-class performances here in Jeddah,” says one of the event organizers with evident enthusiasm
