Saudi Arabia is the best choice to host the Electronic Olympics
Once again, Saudi Arabia proves its ability to host major sporting events on its soil with the highest degree of success
Once again, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia proves its ability to host the largest sporting events on its soil with the highest degrees of success and organizational precision. This leadership has been achieved thanks to the generous and unlimited support of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman (may God protect them). Saudi Arabia has not been satisfied with the sporting events it has hosted since the launch of Vision 2030, which have exceeded 100 global sporting events, and it will not stop at this point. Rather, it still has much to achieve in the coming years. The praise that Saudi Arabia received from the highest international platform during the 142nd session of the International Olympic Committee, which was held on Tuesday evening in the French capital, Paris, from the President of the International Olympic Committee, Dr. Thomas Bach, and the members of the International Olympic Committee, enhances the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s position in the international community and confirms that Riyadh is the destination for the world’s athletes, and that it is the best choice to host the first edition of the Electronic Olympic Games. Because of the expertise and skills it possesses in this area, the Kingdom's bid to host the first edition of the Olympic Games for Electronic Sports in 2025 was well received by the international Olympic family, after Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal presented, during the session, a presentation on the Kingdom's readiness and vision to host this historic and unprecedented event, by highlighting the capabilities that the Kingdom possesses that have enabled it to host more than 100 global sporting events since the launch of Vision 2030. Princess Reema bint Bandar also reviewed the great roles of sports in the Kingdom, enabling sustainability, and contributing to raising the level of global sports.
The official delegation of the Kingdom at the session included the Vice President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Director of the Saudi delegation participating in the Paris Olympics, Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, Board Member and Member of the International Olympic Committee, Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan, His Highness the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Federation for Electronic Sports, Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan, and the CEO and Secretary General, Mr. Abdulaziz Baeshen.
It is worth noting that the International Olympic Committee announced in mid-July, in partnership with the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, that the Kingdom will organize and host the first edition of the Olympic Games for Electronic Sports next year.

Nunez rejects Fenerbahce and sticks with Al-Hilal despite the Benzema deal
Darwin Núñez rejects Fenerbahçe's offer and decides to stay with Al-Hilal despite the signing of Karim Benzema. Learn the details of the offer, Flamengo's interest, and the player's huge salary.

In a remarkable development within the corridors of the Saudi Al-Hilal club, Uruguayan professional Darwin Nunez has made his final decision regarding his future with the club, rejecting the official offer presented to him by the Turkish club Fenerbahce to join its ranks during the current winter transfer window, which is still open in the Turkish league, sparking widespread controversy in sports circles.
Details of Fenerbahce's offer and Nunez's stance
The interest of the prestigious Turkish club in signing Núñez stemmed from the current situation in Al-Hilal's attack, especially after the Riyadh-based club announced the signing of veteran French striker Karim Benzema. Fenerbahçe's management anticipated that Benzema's arrival would reduce Núñez's playing time, potentially facilitating his departure. However, the Uruguayan striker surprised everyone with his shocking decision to stay and compete for his place in the Al-Hilal squad, affirming his commitment to his contract and his desire to win more titles with the Blue team.
Flamengo of Brazil and the financial obstacle
Fenerbahçe wasn't the only club vying for Núñez; Brazilian side Flamengo had also entered the negotiations earlier. Reliable Brazilian journalist Gabriel Urvão revealed the behind-the-scenes details that led to the deal's collapse, indicating that Flamengo's management had indeed inquired about the possibility of loaning the player. Urvão explained via his social media accounts that the main obstacle was Núñez's hefty salary at Al-Hilal, amounting to €16 million annually—a figure exceeding the financial capabilities of South American clubs, making the transfer virtually impossible.
Nunez's numbers and his career with Al-Hilal
Darwin Nunez, 26, joined Al-Hilal from Liverpool in a high-profile transfer last summer, part of Saudi Arabia's major sporting boom aimed at attracting top international stars. Since donning the blue jersey, the international player has featured in 22 matches across all competitions, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists for his teammates, accumulating a total of 1487 minutes of playing time. While opinions vary on his goal-scoring record, his determination to stay reflects his desire to improve his statistics and prove his worth alongside the team's established stars.
General context and impact of global deals
This activity in the transfer market is part of the overall landscape of the Saudi Professional League, which has become a preferred destination for the world's top football stars. The presence of names of the caliber of Karim Benzema and Darwin Núñez in the same team enhances Al-Hilal's competitiveness not only domestically, but also continentally and globally, and presents the coaching staff with the positive challenge of selecting the optimal lineup to ensure continued dominance in championships.
