Zizo returns to Zamalek... Will he save the Whites or leave for Al-Ahly?
In a move that surprised everyone, Ahmed Sayed "Zizo," the star of the first football team at the Egyptian Zamalek club, returned to training
In a move that surprised everyone, Ahmed Sayed "Zizo," the star player of Zamalek's first football team, returned to training on Sunday evening after a 26-day absence from the club. This return comes after a period of heightened tension between the player and the Zamalek management, stemming from his absence from training and his formal appeal against the sanctions imposed on him, amidst strong rumors of his signing with Al Ahly on a free transfer starting in the summer of 2025.
The crisis began when Zizo stopped attending Zamalek's training sessions on April 8th, following his last training session before the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final match against South Africa's Stellenbosch, a match in which he did not participate. Reports attributed his absence to disagreements over renewing his contract with Zamalek, unpaid financial dues, and rumors of his signing a four-year contract with Al Ahly.
Through his lawyer Ashraf Abdel Aziz, “Zizo” submitted an official grievance to the Zamalek administration against the penalties, which he described as false, denying any offense to the club or issuing offensive media statements.
Zizo confirmed in his complaint that he did not leave training without permission on April 8, pointing to the existence of surveillance camera recordings to confirm his attendance. He also demanded protection for his safety inside the club after previous altercations, and expressed his readiness to return to training and submit to investigations inside the Zamalek headquarters.
Zizo arrived at Zamalek's headquarters this evening to participate in training in preparation for the team's match against Al Ahly Bank, scheduled for Monday as part of the fourth week of the Egyptian Premier League championship stage. However, it is still unclear whether he will be allowed to participate in the matches or will be subject to further investigations.

Press reports sparked widespread controversy by confirming that “Zizo” signed a contract with Al-Ahly for 4 years, with the possibility of extending for a fifth season, with a huge financial value of up to 400 million Egyptian pounds, in addition to advertising privileges.
Reports also indicated that the player obtained a US visa to join Al-Ahly's delegation in the 2025 Club World Cup. This news increased the tension between "Zizo" and Zamalek fans, who considered his action a betrayal, and the club's management, which threatened to take strict legal measures if it was proven that he negotiated with another club.
Zamalek's management issued a statement rejecting the request to conduct an investigation with "Zizo" at the Football Association headquarters, stressing that any investigation would be within the club. They also demanded that the player clarify the truth about obtaining an American visa, considering any negotiation with Al-Ahly a violation of the club's policy.
Zizo's return to training may be an attempt to calm the crisis, but obstacles still exist, especially with the penalty clauses in his contract amounting to $4 million, and the outstanding financial dues ranging between 9 and 20 million pounds according to both parties. A decisive meeting is expected to be held between Zizo and the Zamalek management within days to decide his fate, whether by renewing or leaving.

Jesus decides Ronaldo's position against Arkadag in the AFC Champions League 2
Al-Nassr coach Jorge Jesus confirmed his team's readiness to face Arkadag in the second leg of the AFC Champions League Round of 16, clarifying Cristiano Ronaldo's participation status and his message to the fans.

The veteran Portuguese coach, Jorge Jesus, manager of the Saudi Al-Nassr team, announced the complete readiness of the "Global" squad to host their Turkmen counterpart, Arkadag, in the anticipated match that will take place on Wednesday evening, as part of the second leg of the round of 16 of the AFC Champions League 2, a tournament in which the Al-Nassr team seeks to advance towards the title.
Jesus's statements regarding preparations and rotation policy
During the pre-match press conference, Jesus spoke realistically about the upcoming match, saying, "We won the first leg, but our opponent will be strong in the return leg, and we are determined to win and advance in the AFC Champions League." These statements underscore the coach's respect for the opponent despite Al-Nassr's advantage, emphasizing the need for a decisive victory in the second leg to secure qualification.
In a related context, the coach pointed to the physical challenges the team faces due to the relentless fixture schedule, adding: "We play matches every three days, which requires a great deal of effort. Therefore, we will be rotating the squad, which is why we couldn't field our strongest lineup in the Asian Champions League." Jesus's rotation policy is considered essential in modern football, especially for clubs competing on multiple fronts, both domestically and continentally, to avoid fatigue and muscle injuries that could cripple key players at crucial points in the season.
Cristiano Ronaldo's stance and message to the fans
Jesus addressed the situation of the team captain, specifically mentioning Cristiano Ronaldo's age and clarifying the player's physical condition. He said, "Omar is different from the other players and has exerted a great deal of effort in previous matches. We will determine his participation after today's training session." This caution from the coaching staff stems from the immense value the Portuguese star represents and his direct impact on the team's results, necessitating careful management of his fitness levels to ensure he maintains his current level of performance.
Jesus concluded his remarks with a direct and heartfelt message to Al-Nassr's fans, acknowledging the crucial role of their support in Asian competitions. He said, "My message to the fans is to come out as you always have. Their presence boosts the players' morale and pushes them forward, and we always need their support." It is well known that Al-Nassr's fans play a pivotal role in motivating the players, especially in knockout matches that demand mental focus and unwavering moral support throughout the ninety minutes.
It is worth noting that the AFC Champions League 2, with its new format, represents an important opportunity for Saudi clubs to enhance their continental leadership, and the Arkadag match is an important milestone for Al-Nasr to confirm its superiority and seriously compete for the continental title.

The results heralded a new phase of fierce competition, placing Arab clubs in challenging matches and direct confrontations that offer no room for error, promising high-level matches both technically and in terms of fan engagement.
Fiery clashes in the African Champions League
The draw for the CAF Champions League quarterfinals produced some early finals, with the most anticipated and heated clash being between giants Al Ahly of Egypt and Esperance of Tunisia. This match is a true African classic, given the long and exciting history between the two clubs in continental competitions, making it a focus of attention not only in Africa but worldwide.
In a related development, the draw pitted Egyptian club Pyramids FC, the defending champions, against Morocco's FAR Rabat in a tough encounter that pits Egypt's ambition to retain the title against Morocco's desire to reclaim past glories. Meanwhile, South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns will face Mali's Stade Malien, while Sudan's Al-Hilal will clash with Morocco's RS Berkane in a always fiercely contested and exciting Arab-African derby.
Zamalek and Wydad face Confederation Cup challenges
The Confederation Cup draw was no less intriguing, pitting Egyptian giants Zamalek against Congolese side Otoho in a potentially tricky encounter. The White Knights will be looking to overcome this challenge against an underdog African team that often springs surprises on home soil. Meanwhile, in an all-Moroccan clash, Wydad Casablanca will face fellow Moroccan side Olympique Safi, guaranteeing a Moroccan team a place in the semi-finals, while simultaneously eliminating another.
The draw also resulted in a tough match for USM Alger against Congolese side Maitema, while Al Masry of Port Said will face a strong North African derby against Algerian side CR Belouizdad, in a match expected to draw a large crowd due to the overwhelming popularity of both teams.
The importance of the event and the historical context
This edition of the African championships is particularly significant due to the close technical levels between North African and sub-Saharan clubs, as well as the substantial financial incentives offered by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to the winning teams. The numerous all-Arab clashes in these rounds reflect the dominance of North African clubs in continental football, adding a special layer of excitement to the matches given the historical rivalry and intense competition between clubs from Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria.
The fact that these clubs have reached the knockout stages confirms the success of sports development plans in their countries, and presents the fans with a rich football feast that will determine the features of the continent’s champions for this season, amid international anticipation to follow the African talents for whom these tournaments are often the gateway to global professionalism.

Yassla speaks about the difficulty of facing Al-Najma and Al-Ahli's ambition in the league
Al-Ahli coach Mathias Jiesle stressed the difficulty of facing Al-Najma in the Roshan League due to the tight schedule and the opponent's resurgence, emphasizing the need to win in order to continue competing for the top spot.

German coach Matthias Jäissle, manager of Al-Ahli's first football team, emphasized the difficulty and importance of the upcoming match against Al-Najma in the 23rd round of the Saudi Professional League. His remarks came during the pre-match press conference, where he highlighted the technical and physical challenges facing the team at this crucial stage of the season.
Yassle clearly pointed to the tight schedule, explaining that the match comes just two days after the previous one, presenting the coaching staff with a significant challenge: finding the delicate balance between maintaining a high level of performance and ensuring the players' physical readiness to avoid fatigue or injuries. Rapid recovery and player rotation are among the most important factors that major clubs rely on to compete on all fronts, especially given the significant development and increasing competitiveness of the Saudi league.
In analyzing their opponents, Al-Ahli's coach warned against underestimating Al-Najma, noting their high morale. He said, "Of course, Al-Najma's victory in their last match will give them a significant morale boost, especially after the recent change in their coaching staff." It's well-known in football that coaching changes often create a positive shock within a team, motivating players to perform at their best to prove themselves to the new coach. This presents Al-Ahli with a test that demands high mental focus throughout the ninety minutes.
Despite these challenges, Yassleh expressed his strong optimism about his team's ability to overcome this obstacle, emphasizing that Al-Ahli's primary objective is to secure the three points and nothing less. This determination stems from Al-Ahli's ongoing pursuit of the league title and their continued presence in the title race, where every point is crucial in this long league campaign. Al-Ahli fans expect their team to maintain their strong performances, especially given the presence of exceptional players capable of making a difference in difficult moments.
This match is of particular importance as it comes in the last third of the season, when the features of the champion begin to take shape, and matches against mid-table teams become like cup matches that cannot be divided in two for the teams competing for the top spot.
