Saudi Arabia: The ideal host for the 2034 World Cup

The 211 members of FIFA are expected to approve Saudi Arabia's right to host the World Cup

Published

on

The 211 members of FIFA are scheduled to approve Saudi Arabia's right to host the 2034 World Cup during today's (Wednesday) Congress meeting, after its bid received a rating of 419.8 out of 500. This rating is the highest technical rating that FIFA has ever given to a bid to host the World Cup.

Following an inspection tour by a FIFA delegation last October to review the details of the Kingdom's bid to host the global football tournament, the delegation visited the host cities and the sports projects and facilities included in the bid file. They also reviewed the future plans and preparations for hosting the World Cup in five host cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, Al-Khobar, Abha, and NEOM, in addition to 10 other hosting sites across the Kingdom. The matches of the 48 participating teams will be held in 15 stadiums, as the Saudi bid met all the requirements based on four main pillars: stadiums, accommodation, transportation, and fan attendance. These requirements included providing a maximum of 20 stadiums and a minimum of 14, allocating 71 training pitches for the participating teams, ensuring high-quality roofing for all stadiums, holding the opening and final matches in stadiums with a capacity of 80,000 fans, holding the semi-final matches in stadiums with a capacity of 60,000, and the remaining matches in stadiums with a capacity of 40,000. The FIFA delegation also stipulated the provision of 71 accommodation facilities. The national teams, with the provision of comfortable transportation for fans in each city hosting the matches, also stipulated the provision of 8,000 rooms for the cities hosting the opening and final matches, 6,000 rooms for the cities hosting the semi-final matches and 6,000 rooms for the cities hosting the rest of the matches.

For his part, Al-Ittihad captain and veteran French national team striker Karim Benzema urged people to visit Saudi Arabia and explore its landmarks, noting that the Kingdom has many wonderful places worth visiting. He said, "The Saudi people are incredibly hospitable and welcoming to tourists; you feel a great sense of peace whenever you visit any site." This came during his interview with the official Saudi Arabia 2034 World Cup bid account on the social media platform "X." He added, "Saudi Arabia is an exciting country to discover. There are many activities to enjoy, and it's not just desert; even the desert offers fantastic events and activities." He emphasized that Saudi football is developing rapidly and is focused on youth development, and that within 10 years, Saudi Arabia will be fully prepared. He continued, "A Muslim country hosting the World Cup is a fantastic thing. I think visitors will be surprised by the passion of Saudi fans at every match. To understand it, you have to come and attend a match here. I think the world will be amazed by the Saudi fans.".

It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia is seeking to hold the World Cup finals during January 2034, due to the high temperatures in the summer on the one hand, and the overlap of the month of Ramadan, which will be in 2034 between November 11 and December 10, 2034, which is almost the same period that witnessed the holding of the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup finals for the first time in history, and the third time in Asia, after the South Korea and Japan 2002 edition, and Qatar 2022.

Jamal Musiala's return: A major boost for Bayern Munich in the title race

Star player Jamal Musiala returns to Bayern Munich at a crucial time, boosting the team's hopes of competing on three fronts. Find out how his return will impact the Bavarian side's season.

Jamal Musiala, Bayern Munich player

At an ideal time, and with the Bavarian giants showing signs of fatigue in recent weeks, the return of young star Jamal Musiala to Bayern Munich's squad has provided a huge morale and tactical boost. This resurgence comes at a crucial juncture, as the team continues to compete fiercely on three major fronts: the Bundesliga, the German Cup, and the Champions League, ahead of their upcoming match against Hamburg in the 20th round of the league.

Season context and club policy

Musiala's return reinforces the club's strategy, outlined by CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen last December, when he ruled out any major signings during the winter transfer window. Dreesen described the return of injured players like Musiala, Canadian Alphonso Davies, and Japanese Hiroki Ito as "internal winter reinforcements." This approach places great faith in the current squad and the players' ability to regain their form, making Musiala's full fitness crucial for a successful second half of the season.

The artistic importance of Musiala and its direct influence

After a long absence due to injury, Musiala, nicknamed "Bambi," is gradually regaining his form. Despite appearing as a substitute in the last two matches, his positive performances, especially in the Champions League, have proven him to be the missing piece for the team. The German international is expected to start against Hamburg, something the fans are eagerly anticipating. While he is still working towards peak fitness, his dynamism and exceptional dribbling ability in tight spaces will be a lethal weapon for breaking down the defensive formations that Bayern have struggled against recently, as seen in last week's surprising defeat to Augsburg.

These abilities were clearly demonstrated in his stunning goal during the 2-1 Champions League victory over PSV Eindhoven. He received the ball, skillfully dribbled past the defenders, and unleashed a rocket of a shot into the roof of the net. His teammate, striker Harry Kane, commented on the goal, saying: “A fantastic goal from a difficult angle. He showed his potential brilliantly; he was outstanding, and I take my hat off to him.”.

The upcoming confrontation and the historic challenge

Bayern Munich enters its match against Hamburg with confidence stemming from its overwhelming historical record against them. Hamburg is a historic club with a large fan base, and one of only three German clubs to have won the European Cup, but its recent history with Bayern is not encouraging. Hamburg's last victory against Bayern dates back to 2009, and since then, Bayern has won 17 of the 20 matches played between the two sides. In their last eight encounters, Bayern has scored 36 goals while conceding only one. Nevertheless, Hamburg will rely on home advantage, having earned 15 of its 18 points at home this season, to try and achieve a positive result and capitalize on any fatigue that might affect the Bayern players.

Player under the spotlight: Malik Tillman

Away from Munich, at Bayer Leverkusen, midfielder Malik Tillman is beginning to prove his worth six months after joining for a club-record fee of $41 million. Tillman, who began his career at Bayern Munich's academy, scored twice in Leverkusen's 3-0 win over Villarreal, securing his team's place in the Champions League round of 16 playoffs. Despite setbacks due to injuries, his recent performances have been described as "a great relief," while sporting director Simon Rolfes expressed his complete confidence in him, saying, "He'll be much better soon.".

Brazilian Erilson joins Saudi club Damac

The management of Damac FC, headed by Engineer Khaled Al-Mashaat, announced the official signing of young Brazilian midfielder Erilson, 21, from Portuguese club Torrense. This deal comes as part of the club's efforts to strengthen its first team squad during the winter transfer window, in preparation for the remaining matches of the current season in the Saudi Professional League and the King's Cup.

The player's background and European experiences

Erilson is considered one of Brazil's most promising talents, possessing professional experience in European leagues despite his young age. Before joining the Portuguese league, he gained valuable experience in the Ukrainian Premier League, representing Karpaty Lviv, and also played for Polesia during the 2023-2024 season. These experiences have given him tactical and technical maturity, making him a target for scouts, including those from Damac FC, who see him as a valuable addition to their midfield.

The deal is part of the Damac and Roshan League strategy

This signing aligns with Damac FC's strategy of attracting young, talented players who can develop and contribute both technically and financially to the club in the long term. Given the significant transformation underway in the Saudi Professional League and its attraction of some of the world's top stars, clubs like Damac strive to achieve a balance between experience and youth, building a competitive team capable of achieving its goals. Signing Erilson represents an investment in the future and reflects the management's vision of seeking players with the potential for success and the ability to adapt to the high level of competition in the Saudi league.

Expected impact and importance of the deal

Damac's fans and management hope that Erilson will be a significant technical addition to the team, contributing his skills to bolstering the attack and playmaking abilities. As a young player, he is expected to bring dynamism and speed to the midfield, giving the coach additional tactical options. On a broader level, this signing confirms that the Saudi League is no longer just a destination for established stars, but has also become an attractive platform for young talents from around the world, who see it as an opportunity to develop their careers in a highly competitive environment. Erilson's success with the "Knights of the South" could pave the way for more young talents to join the league in the future.

Saudi futsal team loses to Iran in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup

Learn about the details of the Saudi futsal team's loss to their Iranian counterparts in the Asian Cup, and an analysis of the importance of the match and its impact on their chances of qualifying.

Published

on

In a hard-fought match in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup, the Saudi national futsal team suffered a 2-0 defeat against Iran, one of the strongest teams in Asia and the world. Despite a spirited performance from the Saudi team, Iran's experience ultimately proved decisive in this crucial tactical encounter.

The national team's technical director, Andrew Plaza, started the match with a starting lineup that included Hamoud Al-Dahhan in goal, along with players Nawaf Arwan, Farhan Al-Asmari, Abdullah Al-Aqili, and Abdullah Al-Maghribi, relying on a defensive organization and trying to exploit quick counter-attacks.

Context of the confrontation: Saudi ambition against an Asian giant

This match comes within the context of a major continental championship, where the competition is not only for the Asian title but also as a gateway to the FIFA Futsal World Cup, making every match crucial. The Saudi national team enters the tournament with high hopes of reflecting the remarkable progress Saudi sports, and futsal in particular, have witnessed in recent years. The Green Falcons aim to achieve positive results and advance beyond the group stage to compete in the knockout rounds.

On the other hand, the Iranian national team is a formidable force in the world of futsal, holding the record for the most Asian titles. Historically, Iran has dominated the tournament, known for its organized style of play and exceptional individual talent, making them a true test for any team aspiring to compete at the continental and international levels.

The importance of the match and its expected impact

Domestically, this loss serves as a valuable lesson for the Saudi national team, highlighting the gap in experience and skill level when facing established footballing nations like Iran. However, gaining experience against such strong teams is a crucial part of the development process and building a competitive squad for the future. As for their qualification chances, this result has complicated the team's task in Group D, which also includes Afghanistan and Malaysia. Winning the remaining matches is now essential to maintain any hope of advancing to the next round.

Regionally, this result confirms Iran's continued dominance as a force in Asian futsal, while also highlighting the efforts of other teams, such as Saudi Arabia, to close the gap and improve their performance. The Saudi national futsal team remains determined to deliver a respectable performance and achieve the best possible result in this important continental tournament.
