The refereeing crisis casts a shadow over the Al Ahly and Zamalek match
We are about 24 hours away from the 130th Cairo Derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek, scheduled to take place at 9:30 pm tomorrow
About 24 hours separate us from the 130th summit in the Egyptian League between Al-Ahly and Zamalek, scheduled to be held at 9:30 pm tomorrow (Tuesday), at Cairo International Stadium, as part of the first round of the stage to determine the champion of the Nile League with its exceptional system.
Despite the great anticipation for the summit, the refereeing team crisis continues to cast a shadow over the match, amid controversy over the identity of the referee who will officiate the encounter.
It appears that an Egyptian referee is the most likely candidate to officiate the derby, as the Egyptian Football Association has ruled out bringing in foreign referees, especially since Al Ahly and Zamalek have not yet paid the fees for a foreign officiating crew, despite the Association having a nominated team. Furthermore, the foreign referees' commitments to European tournaments have prevented reaching an agreement with them in the limited time remaining.
On the other hand, the participation of Egyptian international referees in the African Union camp in Ivory Coast, and Ahmed El-Ghandour’s commitment to a refereeing mission in Tunisia, narrowed the circle of options, making the trio closest to managing the summit: Mahmoud Bassiouni, Mahmoud Nagi and Hamada El-Qalawi.
Tarek Magdy and Mohamed El Hanafy were also among the nominees, albeit to a lesser degree, but they are not on the list of international referees, which makes their chances of officiating the match slim.
In a related context, Al-Ahly Club sent an official letter to the Egyptian Football Association demanding that the match be assigned to a foreign refereeing team, stressing that the information it received indicates that the League of Clubs has expressed its willingness to bear the costs of bringing in foreign referees, and that the club had previously submitted dozens of memoranda demanding the development of the refereeing system due to repeated errors, but it did not find any response.
The text of Al-Ahly’s letter stated that the club sent a letter today to the Egyptian Football Association, requesting the latter to confirm that the summit match will be held with a foreign refereeing team, and that the Football Association and the League of Clubs bear their responsibilities towards any other views that undermine the success of the competition and its completion in a fair atmosphere.
The letter also stated that information received by the club from the concerned parties indicates that the Professional Clubs Association informed the Football Association that it would bear all the financial costs of bringing in foreign referees, especially since the club had previously submitted dozens of memoranda to the Football Association, requesting the development of the refereeing system and the cessation of errors that affect the results of matches, to no avail.
The club expressed its deep regret for the lack of full coordination in this matter between the Football Association and the League, which would ensure fairness, achieve the principle of equal opportunities, and hold the summit match with foreign referees.
Both teams enter the match amidst a fierce battle for the league title. Pyramids currently sit in first place with 42 points, followed by Al Ahly in second with 39 points, while Zamalek are in third with 32 points, making this upcoming encounter crucial in the title race. Meanwhile, nine clubs have already secured their places in the championship playoffs: Pyramids, Al Ahly, Zamalek, Al Masry, National Bank of Egypt, Ceramica, Pharco, Petrojet, and Haras El Hodoud.
Meanwhile, 9 other clubs will play in the relegation group, including: Zed, Tala’ea El Gaish, Smouha, Al Ittihad Alexandria, El Gouna, Ghazl El Mahalla, Ismaily, Enppi, and Modern Sport.
In a major blow to Zamalek, star player Nasser Mansi suffered a hamstring injury during training, which led to his exclusion from the camp before facing Al-Ahly. The coaching staff is expected to rely on alternatives to compensate for his absence in the anticipated summit.
On the other hand, Al-Ahly's deputy sporting director, Mohamed Shawky, held a private meeting with the team's striker, Wissam Abu Ali, to motivate him to return to scoring goals and not be affected by wasting opportunities in the last match against Tala'ea El-Gaish, stressing that the technical staff trusts his abilities and expects a strong performance from him against Zamalek.

A comprehensive statistical comparison between Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad before the Jeddah derby
Digital analysis of the Al-Ahli vs. Al-Ittihad Jeddah derby: market value, international players, and top stars ahead of the 25th round of the Saudi Professional League.

All eyes of football fans in the Kingdom and the Arab world will be on Jeddah, the "Bride of the Red Sea," next Friday evening, as the Jeddah Stadium hosts the highly anticipated derby between the city's two giants, Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad, in the 25th round of the Saudi Professional League. This match comes at a crucial juncture in the season, with each team striving to assert its dominance and prove its worth in one of the region's most prestigious derbies.
Historical and competitive dimensions of the derby
The Jeddah derby's importance extends far beyond the three points at stake; it embodies a long-standing and historic rivalry for dominance in the western region. This encounter garners widespread media and public attention, particularly given the significant progress Saudi sports are making, which has elevated the derby to a global focal point. Friday's match carries added significance due to the teams' remarkable parity in skill and statistics, making it difficult to predict the winner and promising a thrilling spectacle worthy of Saudi football's reputation.
Very close market value
In the language of finance and business that now governs modern football, statistics reveal a striking convergence between the two rivals. The total market value of Al-Ahli's squad is approximately €170 million, slightly exceeding that of Al-Ittihad, whose squad is valued at €164 million. This narrow difference reflects the significant work and substantial investments made by both clubs' administrations, supported by recruitment programs, to ensure the presence of elite players capable of competing both domestically and continentally.
International experience and age ranges
In terms of squad size, Al-Ittihad holds a clear numerical advantage in international experience, boasting 16 players representing their respective national teams, compared to Al-Ahli's 11. This superiority could give Al-Ittihad greater flexibility in handling the pressures and unpredictable nature of major matches.
In a striking numerical coincidence, the average age of the players on both teams is exactly the same at 25.7 years. This figure clearly indicates that both coaches possess an ideal blend of youthful energy and seasoned experience, promising a fast-paced and highly competitive match, where fitness and mental focus will be crucial factors until the final whistle.
The battle of the most expensive: Enz Mio and Diaby
At the individual level, certain names stand out as sources of public hope. At the top of Al-Ahli's list of most valuable players is Enzo Meo, with a market value of €28 million. He is the player on whom Al-Ahli fans rely to control the midfield and orchestrate the attack. Meanwhile, Al-Ittihad boasts its French winger, Moussa Diaby, who also has a market value of €28 million. He is considered Al-Ittihad's trump card thanks to his exceptional speed and penetrating skills.
In conclusion, despite all these numerical comparisons that show parity, the pitch will be the ultimate judge. Will Al-Ahli succeed in capitalizing on their slight advantage in market value and stability? Or will the experience of Al-Ittihad's international players prevail in deciding the outcome of the 25th round match? The answer will be revealed on Friday evening in a footballing night that leaves no room for error.

Barcelona invoke Neymar's words to achieve a comeback against Atletico
Barcelona stars raise Neymar's historic slogan, "1% probability, 99% belief," to motivate fans and overturn their 0-4 deficit against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final.
In an attempt to salvage the season and write a new chapter in the history of the Catalan club, Barcelona's stars have revived an iconic emblem associated with one of the greatest nights in European football history, aiming to boost morale and instill enthusiasm in both fans and players. This psychological and morale-boosting move comes amidst the near-impossible task facing the team: overturning a heavy 4-0 deficit against their stubborn rivals, Atlético Madrid, in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final, striving to achieve another remarkable comeback to add to the club's record books.
Recalling the spirit of 2017... the night of the miracle
The Catalan newspaper Sport reported that the Barcelona dressing room witnessed a revival of the famous phrase coined by Brazilian star Neymar Jr.: “1% probability, 99% belief .” These words were not just a passing remark, but rather the fuel that spurred the team on in 2017 after a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. At that time, few believed in Barcelona's ability to turn things around, but the team responded in the second leg with a historic 6-1 victory on a memorable night at the Camp Nou, capped by Sergi Roberto's decisive goal that ignited a wave of jubilation in Catalonia.
The new generation campaign led by Rafinha and Yamal
It's not just about reminiscing; current generation stars are leading a widespread motivational campaign across social media platforms to ignite the spirit of challenge. Brazilian star Rafinha and rising talent Lamine Yamal are at the forefront, with Rafinha posting the slogan on his X account, accompanied by a poignant message in Catalan: "We are counting on you," a direct message aimed at inspiring fans to be the 12th man in this crucial match.
The challenge of Atlético Madrid and the importance of the match
This match is of paramount importance to Barcelona, not only because it's the gateway to the cup final, but also because a comeback against a team as defensively solid as Atlético Madrid presents a completely different challenge. Historically, Atlético is known for its ability to close down spaces and hold onto leads, making scoring more than four goals a daunting task requiring double the effort and unwavering focus for the full 90 minutes. However, players like Pedri and Ferran Torres believe that Barcelona's DNA contains the genes for a comeback, and that repeating the 2017 scenario is not impossible if the team's efforts are combined with the roar of the fans.
Barcelona’s success in achieving this comeback will not just be a victory in a match, but will be a strong message to rivals both domestically and in Europe that the team has the strong character capable of overcoming the most difficult circumstances, which is what the coach and fans are counting on to save the season with an important domestic title.
