With rising temperatures, cooling efforts are being intensified for visitors to the Prophet's Mosque

All sectors and entities related to Hajj and visitation work in Madinah have intensified their readiness to receive pilgrims and Umrah performers, and to provide all facilities.

The Governor of the Medina region personally inspected the work system at the Prophet's Mosque.

The city is currently experiencing a rise in temperatures, and the General Authority for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques is working to provide all aspects that contribute to reducing the protection of visitors and worshippers from sunstroke. Umbrellas cover a vast area of the Prophet's Mosque courtyards to contribute to protecting pilgrims from the high temperatures that the region is witnessing. The highly efficient air conditioning system is one of these means. The central air conditioning station covers an area of 70,000 square meters, and the system includes the largest water cooling condenser in the world. It has six chillers, each with a capacity of 3,400 tons, and the water cooling temperature reaches five degrees Celsius. The latest methods and technologies are used to distribute the water coming from the station accurately, uniformly and automatically, to reach 151 units for air treatment, distribution and cooling.

The mosque is cooled by air pushed through pipes connected to the pillars of the Prophet’s Mosque. The water cooling cycle is then completed by returning it through insulated pipes to reach the central station to complete the cooling process. In addition, 250 huge umbrellas, 15m and 14m high, are distributed in the courtyards of the Prophet’s Mosque. Each umbrella weighs 40 tons and operates on an automated system to protect worshippers in the courtyards of the Prophet’s Mosque from the heat of the sun and to protect them from the risks of slipping and falling in case of rain. In addition, there are misting fans that work to cool the atmosphere and reduce the heat for worshippers, as there are 436 misting fans in the courtyards.

The central misting water network is subject to continuous sterilization to ensure the quality of the water, its freedom from bacteria, and to maintain the safety of visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque.

"Tasos" is a heat and light reflector

The white marble (Thassos) that covers the prayer areas in the courtyards of the Prophet’s Mosque is characterized by its ability to reflect heat and light. It absorbs moisture through fine pores during the night, and during the day it releases what it absorbed at night, which keeps it cool during times of high temperatures. There are 20,000 containers for drinking Zamzam water, and this number reaches 22,000 during peak times, in addition to water fountains in the courtyards of the Prophet’s Mosque and water bottles distributed to visitors throughout the Prophet’s Mosque to quench the thirst of the guests of God. There are also 250 mobile umbrellas that have been installed throughout the courtyards surrounding the mosque in its four directions, to protect worshippers from the heat emitted from the sun’s rays and from the risks of slipping and falling during rainfall.

Each umbrella consists of two overlapping parts, one above the other, which are equal when closed. The dimensions of the umbrella are about 25.5 meters by 25.5 meters, and its height reaches about 22 meters. It weighs about 40 tons and operates automatically with sunrise and sunset.

33 hospitals are fully prepared

On the security side, the Madinah region police have dedicated all their resources to serving visitors through diligent work and ensuring the comfort of pilgrims and visitors by facilitating smooth traffic flow and ensuring ease of movement and preventing traffic congestion through continuous monitoring and effective deployment of patrols and traffic motorcycles.

Meanwhile, Madinah Health intensified its efforts to receive visitors by ensuring the readiness of 33 permanent and seasonal hospitals and health centers, in addition to mobile clinic vehicles, to serve visitors with the participation of more than 21,000 health and technical staff working around the clock to provide the best levels of medical care. The cluster launched a comprehensive multilingual awareness and educational campaign targeting the pilgrims coming to Madinah, with the aim of promoting health and preventive awareness in multiple languages, and activating awareness screens at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport and the Haramain High-Speed Railway Station, in addition to 109 screens inside the health facilities affiliated with the cluster.
