Organized jointly by the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority “Nazaha”, in cooperation with the Anti-Corruption Authority of the Republic of Maldives, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, with broad participation from the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and international organizations concerned with combating corruption, and with the participation of ministers, leaders of anti-corruption agencies and experts from various countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Saudi Arabia, in partnership with the Maldives, is organizing the Saudi-Maldivian International Forum to Promote Integrity in Tourism in the Republic of Maldives during the period from 6 to 7 May 2025.
The organization of the forum comes in implementation of the decisions of the fiftieth session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the second ministerial meeting of anti-corruption law enforcement agencies for 2024, reflecting the commitment of member states to promote international cooperation and consolidate the values of integrity and transparency, especially in vital economic sectors, most notably the tourism sector.
The forum addresses a number of key topics, most notably enhancing transparency and good governance in the tourism sector, mechanisms for combating corruption in it, in addition to ways to strengthen international partnerships and exchange experiences between member states and regional and international organizations, in order to support sustainable development and build a reliable and safe tourism environment.
The forum includes dialogue sessions and high-level discussions, during which high-level principles for promoting integrity in the tourism sector will be reviewed, along with the presentation of a set of recommendations that constitute a roadmap for promoting transparency and combating corruption at the national and international levels.
The forum will also present mechanisms for cooperation and information exchange between relevant parties, highlighting best international experiences and practices in combating corruption in the tourism sector, and adopting practical policies and procedures that contribute to reducing gaps and enhancing prevention.
The forum enjoys broad international participation, including representatives from more than 40 countries, along with more than 10 regional and international organizations, including a number of ministers, heads and representatives of anti-corruption law enforcement agencies in the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. International organizations are also participating in the forum’s work, including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), the Global Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Operations Network (GlobE Network), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in addition to a select group of local and international experts and specialists.
