Civil Defense warnings about floods and rain in Saudi Arabia | Safety tips

As part of proactive efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property, the General Directorate of Civil Defense in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reiterated its warnings to citizens and residents, emphasizing the need to exercise extreme caution during the rainy season and periods of unstable weather. This emphasis was made by Civil Defense representative, First Lieutenant Abdullah Al-Kharboush, during his participation in the “Absher 2025” conference, a leading platform showcasing the latest technologies in digital transformation and government services.

Background of the warning and its climatic context

These warnings come in the context of advanced alerts issued by the National Center for Meteorology, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall in several regions of the Kingdom. This rainfall is often accompanied by dangerous weather phenomena such as strong winds, hail, and thunderstorms, leading to sudden and dangerous flash floods. The Kingdom's geography is characterized by numerous dry valleys and streams that can transform into raging torrents of water within minutes, posing a serious threat to anyone in their path, especially those unaware of the speed and force of the current.

The importance and expected impact of adhering to instructions

Adhering to civil defense instructions is not merely a preventative measure, but an absolute necessity for preserving lives. Locally, avoiding areas prone to flooding and wadis (dry riverbeds) helps reduce drowning and entrapment incidents, and protects property and vehicles from damage. Furthermore, public awareness of these risks alleviates the burden on rescue and emergency teams, allowing them to focus their efforts on critical cases. On a broader scale, this positive interaction between citizens and relevant authorities reflects a growing societal maturity in dealing with natural disasters and enhances the state's capacity to manage crises efficiently and effectively, thus minimizing the economic and human losses caused by flash floods.

The role of technology in enhancing safety

The Civil Defense's participation in the "Absher 2025" conference, organized by the Ministry of Interior in cooperation with the Tuwaiq Academy and global technology companies, was no coincidence. It sends a clear message that security and service agencies in the Kingdom are harnessing the latest technologies to serve the safety and security of society. Through digital platforms and smartphone applications, warnings are sent instantly and comprehensively, ensuring that information reaches the widest possible audience in a timely manner. First Lieutenant Al-Kharboush emphasizes that the Civil Defense is present in all locations to ensure safety, but public awareness and adherence to guidelines remain the first and most important line of defense.

In conclusion, Al-Kharboush urged everyone to follow weather forecasts and warnings issued by official authorities, and not to be complacent in taking the necessary precautions, such as staying away from dams and water pools, and not risking crossing valleys while they are flowing, in order to preserve their safety and the safety of their families.

Saudi Arabia weather: Rain in Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and Qassim, and dense fog

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued its daily weather report for today (Tuesday), indicating continued unstable weather conditions across several regions of the Kingdom. The report stated that there remains a chance of moderate to heavy thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds that may stir up dust and reduce horizontal visibility in some areas.

The weather forecast covers a wide area, with rainfall expected to be concentrated in parts of the Northern Borders region, the Eastern Province, Riyadh, Qassim, and Hail. This weather system also extends to parts of Madinah and Makkah, necessitating caution while traveling on highways in these areas.

In a related development, the National Center for Meteorology indicated that the sky will be partly cloudy to cloudy, with a chance of scattered light rain over parts of the southwestern highlands, specifically in the Al-Baha, Asir, and Jazan regions. This weather pattern is typical for this time of year, as the Kingdom is affected by humid air masses that contribute to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds.

The report also highlighted another weather phenomenon requiring attention: the potential formation of dense fog during the night and early morning hours. This fog is expected to affect parts of the highlands in the aforementioned regions (Al-Baha, Asir, and Jazan), as well as parts of the Tabuk region and the Eastern Province, potentially causing near-zero visibility on some highways and in open areas.

These forecasts are of particular importance due to their direct impact on traffic and land navigation, as relevant authorities such as Civil Defense and Traffic usually issue proactive warnings to citizens and residents about the need to adhere to safety rules, avoid valleys and flood channels, and reduce speed when driving in dusty or foggy conditions to ensure everyone’s safety.
