Survival rates for advanced cancers increased by 50%
Survival rates for advanced cancers have increased by 50% thanks to nanotechnology and artificial intelligence, a promising future for cancer treatment in Saudi Arabia.
Advances in the treatment and prevention of tumors
Saudi Arabia aims to improve the quality of life and raise the average life expectancy to 75 years by 2030, with a focus on making that year cancer-free. These efforts rely on advancements in nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, regenerative medicine, and gene editing.
Immunotherapy and its successes
Dr. Abdulwahab Al-Shahrani, Consultant of General Surgery, Obesity and Advanced Endoscopy, explained that immunotherapy has achieved remarkable successes in increasing survival rates for some types of advanced cancers from 15 to 50. Immunotherapy has also been able to achieve cure rates of up to 80 in some tumors that were considered incurable.
It is important to note that not every tumor that appears on the body is malignant . The vast majority are benign. However, technological advancements in cancer treatment have significantly improved outcomes and reduced side effects.
Technological advancements in cancer treatment
Recent advancements include techniques such as conventional chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, advanced cell therapy, and advanced radiotherapy. These techniques have helped reduce the incidence of radiotherapy side effects by 60% and improve treatment efficacy, reducing side effects by up to 85% compared to traditional methods.
Understanding Genetic Mutation and Genomics
Dr. Al-Shahrani also discussed the importance of genetic mutation and genomics in understanding the nature of tumors. Today, physicians can analyze the DNA of cancer cells in minute detail to identify the mutations responsible for tumor growth. This understanding helps doctors choose the most appropriate treatment for each patient based on the individual characteristics of their tumor.
Targeted gene therapy has also succeeded in transforming some deadly tumors into manageable chronic diseases, opening up new horizons for more effective and less harmful treatments.
Summary and future prospects
Technological advancements are greatly contributing to the fight against cancer . With continued research and development, we expect to see further improvements that will lead to more effective and safer cancer prevention and treatment.
