Egyptian actress Reem El Baroudi confirmed that the guests on the prank shows presented by artist Ramez Galal during Ramadan know about the prank, but not all the details.
During her appearance on the program “From Near,” presented by journalist Nizar Al-Fares on the “Iraq Al-Hadath” channel, she said, “I was going to fall victim to the program “Ramez Brought the Other Side,” which aired in Ramadan 2024, in the episode with artist Somaya El-Khashab, but I refused to do that.”.
Regarding the reason for her refusal to appear on the “Ramez Gab Men El Akher” program in Ramadan 2024, she said: “Because he didn’t tell me, but they told Somaya El Khashab, but I knew. I knew it was Ramez, and I said that I’m afraid of animals, but the producer told me that this time it was a game and that he would appear himself, and she didn’t tell the truth, but we, as colleagues and friends, tell each other. I knew that there was another guest in the episode.”.
Regarding her opinion on the success of Ramez Galal's programs, Al-Baroudi said: "I see that Ramez Galal is successful. Throughout the years, people have been criticizing him, but he is successful.".

The ban on the Hamdiya series in Iraq: Reasons and official response
The Iraqi Media and Communications Commission has decided to ban the series "Hamdiya" following accusations of insulting Iraqi women. Learn more about the decision, MBC Iraq's response, and the context of the controversy.
The Iraqi Media and Communications Commission issued an official decision to ban the broadcast of the series “Hamdiya”, in response to a wide wave of popular criticism and parliamentary demands that considered the work offensive to Iraqi women and distorting their social image, in a step that reflects the keenness of regulatory bodies to control media content during the Ramadan season.
Details of the official decision
Mahmoud al-Rubaie, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Media and Communications Commission, explained in a post on the “X” platform that the decision was based on Order No. (65) of 2004 and in response to angry public demands. Al-Rubaie affirmed the Commission's commitment to preventing the broadcast of any content that offends noble values or incites sedition, noting that the Board had reviewed the original novel by Qadouri al-Douri, on which the series was based, as well as the advertisements broadcast by MBC Iraq.
Accordingly, the Board of Commissioners directed the executive body of the Authority to prevent the broadcasting of the series, with the directive to take deterrent legal measures against any platform operating within Iraq that publishes material that includes abuse of Iraq and Iraqis during the nights of the holy month of Ramadan.
MBC Iraq's stance
For its part, MBC Iraq, through an official source, confirmed that it has not yet received any official written notification regarding the banning of the series. The source emphasized that the channel operates within legal and professional frameworks and respects applicable Iraqi laws. The source defended the work, explaining that the series "Hamdiya" does not aim to offend Iraqi women or any social group, but rather addresses social issues within an artistic and dramatic framework. The source affirmed the channel's readiness to deal with any official decision in accordance with legal procedures.
The context of dramatic debate in Ramadan
This debate is not unprecedented in the Iraqi drama scene, where the holy month of Ramadan witnesses heated discussions every year about television programs and their compatibility with social values. Iraqi and Arab dramas aimed at Iraqi audiences face ongoing challenges in balancing artistic freedom with adherence to the moral and social standards imposed by conservative Iraqi society. Censorship and parliamentary bodies frequently intervene to halt productions accused of distorting the image of tribes, women, or security institutions, making dramatic production in Iraq a process fraught with censorship and societal concerns.
The importance of oversight and the influence of public opinion
The decision to ban the series "Hamdiya" highlights the powerful influence of public opinion and social media platforms on official decision-making in Iraq. Digital campaigns rejecting certain artistic content have become an effective pressure tool, prompting regulatory bodies like the Communications and Media Commission to take proactive or punitive measures. This trend reflects the state's commitment to maintaining social peace and preventing any content that could be interpreted as inciting sectarianism or offending social symbols, especially given the sensitive circumstances that demand social cohesion and respect for authentic Iraqi cultural identity.
