What does “Number One” mean by “Hategili”?

It seems that the controversy surrounding the phrase “Congratulations, my son… How are you?” which Egyptian artist Yasmine Sabri directed to her colleague Mohamed Ramadan in a congratulatory gesture for his recent successes, during an artistic suhoor organized by a production company in Cairo at the end of last Ramadan, has not ended, after the latter stirred controversy again on social media, immediately after releasing the promotional poster for a new song called “Hatgeeli,” which contained some hints about his recent crisis with Yasmine.

Ramadan posted the promotional poster for the song, which was a cartoon image of him with a girl standing in front of him. Ramadan used the same gesture that he had used to express his anger at the artist Yasmine Sabri at a suhoor party of one of the production companies during the last month of Ramadan.

The gesture caused a major crisis between the two parties, after Yasmine said to him, "Congratulations, my son," to which he pointed at her with his hand, saying, "My son?! Are you crazy?!".

Some people linked the song's poster to the incident, considering it a new round of provocation against Yasmine, who had decided to sue him for what he did, but ultimately backed down after some mutual friends intervened to calm the crisis.

Not content with just posting the song's poster, Mohamed Ramadan also posted a cartoon video on his official Instagram account, in which he appears as "Nasser El Desouky" pointing a madman's sign at a girl with long black hair standing in front of him, which followers considered a reference to his crisis with his fellow actress.

Some people linked Ramadan’s exploitation of his crisis with Yasmine to promote his new song to previous situations in which he exploited his personal problems to promote his artistic works, as he exploited his crisis with a media figure to promote one of his songs, and he also exploited his crisis with a famous bank to promote another of his artistic works.

It is worth mentioning that the artist Mohamed Ramadan had traveled with his family to Washington, to perform at one of the concerts there, as part of the Coachella Valley Festival concerts scheduled to be held in America, the day after tomorrow, Sunday.

The series "Ala Ad El Hob" (As Much as Love) stars Nelly Karim in a gripping psychological drama this Ramadan

The production company has released the official trailer for its new series, "Ala Ad El Hob" (As Much as Love), which is set to air during Ramadan. The series promises viewers a rich dramatic experience, blending social romance, mystery, and psychological tension across 30 episodes. It once again places star Nelly Karim at the heart of complex psychological dramas, a genre in which she has repeatedly demonstrated her excellence.

Psychological conflicts and dangerous delusions

The teaser trailer creates an atmosphere charged with mystery, as Nelly Karim portrays "Maryam," a seemingly successful jewelry designer who hides a fierce inner conflict behind her calm facade. Maryam suffers from severe psychological disturbances and delusions that could drive her to actions that directly endanger her daughter, "Lily." This escalating psychological struggle leads her into constant confrontations with everyone around her, building a dramatic plot that relies heavily on profound human and psychological tension.

Nelly Karim: A history full of complex roles

This role comes as a continuation of Nelly Karim's artistic career, which has been distinguished by her boldness in choosing challenging and complex roles, especially during the Ramadan drama season. She has etched iconic roles in the memory of Arab viewers, such as her character in "Women's Prison," which highlighted the suffering of female prisoners, and her role in "Under Control," which addressed the issue of addiction with shocking realism, in addition to the series "That," which chronicled the transformations of Egyptian society. Nelly Karim's return to this type of role raises the expectations of the audience, who anticipate another exceptional performance.

The importance of psychological drama in the Arab world

The series “Ala Qad Al Hob” (As Much as Love) is particularly significant because it addresses mental health issues, topics long considered taboo in Arab drama. Presenting these issues in a widely watched Ramadan series helps break the silence surrounding mental health and raises public awareness about the importance of psychological support. The series is expected to spark extensive discussions on social media platforms, further enhancing its cultural and social impact regionally.

A complex network of relationships and pivotal figures

The plot thickens further through the web of relationships surrounding Mariam. The role of Sherif Salama stands out; he portrays a professional chef who returns from Italy to open his own restaurant in Egypt, but his life is turned upside down when his fate intersects with Mariam's. The series also stars a number of other actors, including Maha Nassar and Ahmed Saeed Abdel Ghani, whose roles will reveal new secrets that will further complicate the plot as the episodes unfold.

Integrated team

The series stars Nelly Karim and Sherif Salama, alongside a distinguished cast including Ahmed Saeed Abdelghani, Maha Nassar, Mahmoud El-Leithy, Mohamed Abu Dawood, Safaa El-Toukhy, and Mohamed Ali Rizk. Written by Mostafa Gamal Hashem and directed by Khaled Saeed, the series promises a comprehensive artistic vision befitting the scale of the story and its cast.

Ramadan 2024 TV series: Strong competition between Saudi and Egyptian dramas

With the approach of the holy month of Ramadan, the Arab entertainment scene enters a state of high alert, as satellite channels and digital streaming platforms prepare to launch their diverse lineups of dramas. This season, considered the most important on the television production calendar, witnesses fierce competition among production giants in Saudi Arabia, the Gulf, and Egypt, each striving to secure a leading position in the viewership race by offering a rich mix of social, historical, heritage, and comedic dramas, aiming to satisfy all tastes of the Arab audience.

This competition is not a recent phenomenon, but rather an extension of a deeply rooted cultural tradition spanning more than half a century. The month of Ramadan has gradually transformed from a religious and social occasion into a peak season for media and entertainment in the Arab world. From the days of the single state-run television channel that families gathered around, through the satellite television revolution of the 1990s which expanded options, to today's era of digital platforms that offer on-demand viewing, the Ramadan series has remained the centerpiece of entertainment and the arena for the greatest creative and commercial competition throughout the year.

At the heart of this competition, Saudi drama stands out with remarkable strength. The second season of "Shari' al-A'sha" (The Blind Street) takes center stage, returning to build on the immense success of its first season. The series continues to delve into the social memory of the 1970s, showcasing the economic and cultural transformations through the stories of residents in a traditional neighborhood, promising a dramatic escalation in the conflicts. Saudi drama also presents a historical Bedouin drama, "Kahilan," which explores the power struggles and influence within the tribes, attempting to revive this genre with a contemporary production style. On the comedy front, the beloved duo Majid Mutrib and Reem Abdullah return in the third season of "Jak al-Alam" (The Flag Has Arrived), offering a dose of family laughter through the everyday situations of "Abu Samel" and "Umm Samel.".

Gulf drama, and specifically Kuwaiti drama, is entering the competition with its weighty offering, the heritage series "Sumoom Al-Qaydh" (Summer Poison). The work is based on the local environment, rich with human details and traditional conflicts, relying on a selection of Gulf stars to ensure a wide audience base, capitalizing on the growing interest in heritage works that document the region's history and present it in an attractive visual format.

As for Egyptian drama, historically a leader in the field, it is participating with significant works. Star Mustafa Shaaban returns in the series "Darsh," tackling a popular neighborhood drama that blends the past and present, while Ahmed El-Awady presents "Ali Clay," the story of a poor young man's struggle to rise in the world of boxing, within a framework that addresses class conflict and profound psychological transformations.

The impact of this competition extends far beyond mere entertainment, forming a major economic and cultural phenomenon. It drives artistic production, creates thousands of jobs, and serves as a massive advertising arena where companies pour enormous budgets. Regionally, these productions act as a tool of soft power, reflecting each country's culture, history, and societal trends, thus enhancing its media presence in the region. With the proliferation of global platforms, these series have become a bridge to Arab communities abroad and a window for global audiences to learn about contemporary Arab culture.

Ultimately, with more shows being announced, the upcoming Ramadan season seems wide open. Competition will be fierce not only for television viewership ratings but also for trending spots on social media platforms, with the audience remaining the final judge, determining the fate of each show and granting it success and impact.

The story of artist Ibrahim Al-Milad: Turki Al-Sheikh's invitation revives a dream

In a humanitarian gesture reflecting the growing interest in artistic talent in Saudi Arabia, visual artist Ibrahim Al-Milad expressed his deep gratitude for the invitation he received from His Excellency Turki Al-Sheikh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Entertainment Authority. Al-Milad emphasized that this invitation was not merely an appreciation of his art, but a lifeline that revived his spirits and boosted his self-confidence after years away from the art scene.

The artist Al-Milad had garnered widespread sympathy after describing himself as a "failure" in a poignant statement, explaining that this feeling stemmed from his inability to achieve his long-held artistic ambitions. He attributed this to compelling life circumstances, as he was forced to abandon his passion for visual arts for many years due to his professional obligations as a firefighter in Qatif Governorate, in addition to family responsibilities that demanded his complete dedication.

Background of the story: From firefighting to the art of painting

Ibrahim Al-Milad's story exemplifies the many talents that life's circumstances can stifle. After years of dedicated service in his field, Al-Milad found himself, upon retirement, with an opportunity to return to his first love: art. However, this return was not easy. Limited financial resources and a modest pension posed significant obstacles to his ambitions, preventing him from participating in art exhibitions or even promoting his work as he deserved. This kept him out of the media spotlight and the Saudi art scene.

The importance of support in the context of Vision 2030

Advisor Turki Al-Sheikh's invitation comes within the context of a major cultural and artistic transformation underway in the Kingdom, as part of the goals of Vision 2030, which places particular emphasis on supporting culture and the arts as a cornerstone of quality of life and a driver of the creative economy. The General Entertainment Authority plays a pivotal role in discovering and supporting local talent across various fields, showcasing it to both local and international audiences. Highlighting the story of an artist like Al-Milad sends a powerful message: opportunities are available to everyone, and genuine talent will find appreciation and support regardless of age or past circumstances.

Expected impact and new beginning

This support is expected to have a significant positive impact not only on Ibrahim Al-Milad's personal career but also on the Saudi art scene as a whole. It encourages other artists facing similar challenges to persevere and not give up. For Al-Milad, this invitation represents a new starting point towards realizing his dreams. He now hopes to exhibit his work in major art venues, from Riyadh to international biennials and exhibitions, sharing his artistic vision, honed through years of passion and patience, with the world.
