The Ministry of Culture announced today (Wednesday) the launch of the first font and the Saudi font, which express the cultural identity of the Kingdom. Their development and numbering were based on authentic sources in Arab culture, represented in inscriptions and Qur’ans, and they were designed with a uniqueness that reflects the aesthetics of Arabic scripts, for which the Kingdom is a historical incubator.

Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan pointed out that the launch of the first font and the Saudi font is a tribute to the rich cultural and artistic heritage that the Kingdom abounds in. Prince Badr bin Farhan said: “Each of these two fonts forms a bridge between the past and the present by combining traditional elements with contemporary design principles. This harmonious blend combines honoring the Kingdom’s heritage and inspiring a spirit of innovation.”.

The design trends of the first font highlight the spirit of the script in the ancient inscriptions of the Arabian Peninsula in the first century AH. The clarity of the script and the aesthetic marks were taken into account, and its construction was based on the dry style and imitation of the original drawing in the inscriptions. Meanwhile, the design of the Saudi font was inspired by the identity and culture of the Kingdom, taking into account the writing rules and artistic principles used in the first font and applying them in a contemporary way that translates what the Kingdom has achieved in terms of cultural renaissance under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the Crown Prince, Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The implementation of (The First Line) and (The Saudi Line) involved a group of local and international experts within the research team contributing to the project, with the support of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, the King Abdulaziz Foundation, and the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Global Center for Arabic Calligraphy initiative. It was implemented according to a sound scientific methodology consisting of five stages that included multiple research roles that included research and analysis through field visits, extracting and analyzing texts, developing initial models, redrawing the line, forming the writing rules, developing aesthetic rules, and the proportions of the letters, in addition to developing applications and styles of the line, then the final review and evaluation. The project produced a set of outputs, the most prominent of which was the development of the Arabic line with its original identity, numbering it through applications of the original line, drawing this line, setting technical and aesthetic rules for it, with the development of an educational artistic alphabet for the origins of the line, its simple rules, digitizing it, and providing it based on best practices.

Arabic script originated in the Arabian Peninsula, the cradle of ancient human civilizations and the home of historical scripts and inscriptions. The script went through multiple stages, influenced by the cultural and political conditions in the Arab region, and began to spread with the movement of Arabs during the Islamic expansion, adopting diverse styles and methods of writing. This prompted the Ministry of Culture to launch two new types of scripts called “The First Script” and “The Saudi Script” to reflect the historical depth of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is considered the cradle of ancient human civilizations and the home of various scripts and inscriptions that ranged between Musnad, Nabataean, Thamudic, and others.

The Ministry of Culture’s launch of the first font and the Saudi font stems from its belief in the importance of Arabic calligraphy and its role in shaping the national cultural identity, as it is the creative artistic vessel that has contained Arab culture throughout its long history. The project seeks to enhance the presence of Arabic fonts with their original identity in contemporary applications, in order to achieve the objectives of the National Cultural Strategy and the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in its cultural aspects, especially with regard to caring for the Arabic language and developing the Saudi contribution to culture and arts.

Mohamed Youssef Ozo reveals his rare illness after the series "Sahab Al Ard"

In a poignant moment of candor that put an end to many questions, Egyptian artist Mohamed Youssef, known artistically as “Ozo,” broke his silence to reveal to the public the truth about his health condition, following the controversy surrounding his obvious hunched back during his outstanding performance in the series “Sahab Al Ard,” which aired during the 2026 Ramadan drama season. This appearance, which attracted attention, was not just an acting performance, but rather concealed a real story of pain.

The nature of the disease: What is ankylosing spondylitis?

Ouzo explained via his official Facebook account that he is battling a rare autoimmune disease known medically as ankylosing spondylitis. Medically, this disease is a chronic type of arthritis that primarily affects the spine, causing inflammation and stiffness of the vertebrae. Over time, this can lead to some vertebrae fusing together, which explains the changes in posture and difficulty moving that the public has noticed.

The young artist confirmed that he is currently undergoing an intensive treatment program based on “biological therapy”, which is one of the latest medical protocols used to control the activity of the immune system, with the aim of stopping the deterioration of the condition and stabilizing the disease at its current level, to ensure that he can continue to practice his professional and personal life.

Behind the scenes of the medical trip and the role of the union

In a related context, Mohamed Youssef revealed his persistent efforts to find radical solutions, noting that he did not hesitate to explore both cosmetic and therapeutic surgery options to improve the appearance of his spinal curvature. He was accompanied on his search by Dr. Ashraf Zaki, head of the Actors' Syndicate, a gesture reflecting the syndicate's ongoing support for its members during health crises. Despite his strong desire to undergo surgery, the specialist advised postponing the procedure for a full year due to the complexities of his medical condition, even though the typical recovery period for such surgeries does not exceed six months.

Despite these obstacles, Ozu showed great determination to complete his treatment journey, confirming his intention to consult another doctor who has a vision that balances the cosmetic necessity and the precise medical considerations of his complex condition.

A message of awareness and apology to the public

Away from the cameras, Ozu emphasized that his decision to conceal his illness for so long stemmed from his desire to avoid seeking public sympathy, preferring to endure the excruciating pain with patience and silence. He noted that he resorts to assistive methods such as hydrotherapy and manual therapy to alleviate the stiffness and daily pain.

He concluded his speech with a noble message in which he apologized to everyone who criticized his appearance or the way he walked in the series without knowing the truth about his illness, stressing that what people see as a superficial difference is in fact a daily battlefield that he silently wages, thus highlighting the importance of societal awareness of the invisible suffering of others, and the need to be patient before passing judgment on the outward appearance of artists and public figures.
